CLEAN SWEEP PROGRAM FOR SYDNEY SCHOOLS
The Federal Government is offering grants for schools to install clean technologies designed to make greening our schools easier and with greater cost savings.
Watershed West has made it so much easier for schools to go green by initiating the CleanSweep (Schools’ Water and Energy Efficiency) Program.
Watershed West assists schools by helping complete the grant applications. This involves the design and integration of various water and energy saving systems which meet the needs of each school. Our company offers its consulting services free of charge to Sydney-based schools.
We already have many satisfied schools as clients and we have in place a process to support schools in meeting the grant requirements.

“There’s so much you can do around schools to save on water and energy costs and most importantly teach students about ways to help the environment”.
(John West, Managing Director – Watershed West)
Case Study – Caringbah South Public School
Caringbah South Public School has installed rainwater tanks, solar hot water systems and Solar Power to help the environment while saving money on future utility costs.
Rainwater System
Three rainwater tanks with the storage capacity of over 18,000 litres were installed at the boys and girls toilet blocks. This rainwater harvesting system provides rainwater for flushing all toilets, saving thousands of litres of potable water each year. A stainless steel submersible pump was installed inside the tank to significantly reduce the noise level and protect the pump from vandalism or theft.
Solar Hot Water System
Two 270 litre Solahart Streamline hot water systems were installed to provide hot water to the staff room and canteen. The new systems replaced old electric units helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while providing continuous hot water largely free from the sun.

Watershed West will conduct a free of charge maintenance check six months after installation.
Optional Benefits for Your School
· Watershed West can create an information handout for students that explains the energy and water savings strategy for your school and how the changes your school implements benefits the environment. (Please note content is only published with consultation and consent of the school).
· Funding Opportunity for schools in that Watershed West will donate $100 to the school for each water tank or solar hot water system installed by families, friends or staff of the school. Watershed West will create a take home brochure for families.
· Watershed West will advise on requirements for your school to claim a Sydney Water rebate on the project for $2,500.00 if eligible. If your school wishes, this funding may then be used in associated conservation projects with Watershed West including elements not included in the national solar schools program.
· We have in place a special promotion with our new partners, Sydney Organic Gardens, who will build, prepare and plant your own School Organic Garden (please see accompanying brochure) which can then be linked to the tank watering system to provide a strong story to students about sustainable living. Watershed West believe this is a great project for children and therefore we will support this with a bonus $1,000.00 towards the project.
